How Do I become a volunteer?

Email Lisa@mowmc.org to let us know that you are interested, or give her a call at 936-756-5824.

How do I request a sub?

Email volunteers@mowmc.org to let us know that you will need a sub. If it is last minute, please call Magaly at 936-756-5849.

I have some extra time coming up and I want to volunteer on that day. How do I offer to substitute for a route?

Please check your email for our weekly newsletter. There is a link in that newsletter to sign up for routes that we need substitutes for. The link changes every week, so be sure to check the latest email! The email is sent out at 1:00 PM every Friday.

How do I sign up to substitute for a route?

We have routes down every day and appreciate you going the extra mile! Please use the link in our weekly Volunteer Update email to sign up for a route as a substitute or call Lisa in the morning at 936-756-5824. You must be an vetted volunteer in order to sub.

What do I do if there's an emergency on my route?

If there is a medical emergency, or an immediate need for assistance, please call 911. Please stay until emergency personnel arrive then call the number at the upper left corner of your route sheet. Please do not attempt to move the client if they have taken a fall; instead call 911 immediately and wait for professional help. Otherwise, call us and we will contact the senior's emergency contact.

What do I do if I feel unsafe?

We never want you to feel unsafe for any reason. However, in the event that something is causing a safety concern, please move on with the rest of your route and call our number listed at the top left of the route sheet to let us know.

Can I bring my kids, family members, or friends along with me on my route?

Yes! Having extra hands is very helpful on your route and is a great way to promote interest in our volunteer program!

Can I bring my own coolers?

Yes! This can prevent you from having to drive back to your pickup site after your route. Just be sure to bring back your route sheet the next time you deliver, or the next day (route sheets can also be mailed back)!

I can't find a stop on my route!

First, look at the Driver’s Instructions on the route sheet. We spend a lot of time on the details to help you as a volunteer have a successful delivery experience. Feel free to contact our office using the number at the top of the route sheet, or contact Volunteer Relations.

My senior asked me to relay a message to Meals on Wheels. Who do I send their comments to?

You can note any comments on your route sheet.

Can I leave a meal at their doorstop if nobody answers?

No. If a client is not at home, attempt to call the client by dialing *67 then their number listed on the route sheet. Offer the extra meal and drink to your next client(s), to someone who you know needs a meal, or consume it yourself. If you have extra frozen meals, please return the frozen meals the next time you volunteer or to the Conroe location at your convenience.

Can I leave a breakfast bag at their doorstep if nobody answers?

Breakfast bags are shelf stable food items that, in the event that a client doesn't answer the door, you may leave in a covered area.

Are masks required?

No, masks are no longer required when delivering a meal as of November 7th, 2022.

How do I request a lanyard, T-shirt, or window flag?

Email magaly@mowmc.org and she will make sure you get one!
